- The International Ph.D. Programme (IPP) offers an effective framework for doctoral research on intercultural topics relating to language, literature and media in the following disciplines: African Studies and Literature in African Languages, English Language and Literature, Arabic Studies, German Language and Literature including Intercultural German Studies / German as a Foreign Language, Islamic Studies, Media Studies, Romance Language and Literature, and Drama Studies. Research foci include: 1. Theories of cultural encounter; 2. Linguistic and literary effects of globalisation; 3. Intercultural African Studies; 4. The Familiar and the Foreign
- # The programme offers intensive methodological, theoretical and terminological instruction. It provides effective academic guidance (each student has several supervisors) as well as a clearly structured study programme with specially designed courses in German and English, leading to completion of the doctorate within three years. Highly suitable applicants who do not satisfy the entry requirements and/or who lack the necessary language skills may participate in a preparatory year before proceeding to the doctoral programme
